MANILA, Philippines – To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Department of Education (DepEd) must postpone this month’s scheduled graduation to schools.
Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian should suspend high school graduation and moving up activities at junior high school and in daycare centers.
An estimated 3 million senior high school students are expected to graduate this year.
Gatchalian explained that upon graduation, parents who are abroad will be home and will be concerned about the health of the students, teachers and all the school personnel attending the event.
The DepEd should follow the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recommendation for conducting public gatherings such as graduation rites as there is already local transmission in the country.
